FTC is designed for those who want to compete head to head, using a sports model. Teams of up to 10 students are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. Our team will compete in 3 San Diego tournaments…dates to be determined.

Dehesa Charter School’s FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team, Fusion, competed in the San Diego Robotics Championship Tournament Saturday, January 14th, 2012.
Fusion was on the Winning Alliance and was awarded the most prestigious award, the Inspire Award, advancing them to the World Championships in St Louis, MO, April 25-28, 2012.
FIRST Tech Challenge Inspire Award
The Inspire Award is the most prestigious FTC award, and is given to the team that truly embodies the ‘challenge’ of the FTC program. The team that receives this award is chosen by the judges as having best represented a role model FIRST Tech Challenge Team. The team that receives this award is a top contender for all other judging categories and is a strong competitor on the field. The Inspire Award Winner is an inspiration to other teams, acting with Gracious Professionalism both on and off the playing field. This team understands how to communicate their experiences and knowledge to other teams, sponsors, and the judges.

Los Angeles Tournament results: Fusion made it to the semi finals, was awarded a division finalist medal, and the PTC Design Award.
Here's what the judges had to say:
The intent of the PTC Design Award is to expand the challenge, inspiring teams to incorporate industrial design into their robots. These elements can be shown in the simplicity of the design as it applies to the tasks, the look and feel of the robot, and how the design allows us to think of robots in new ways. The Design aspect must serve a function – but they should also differentiate the robot in a unique fashion – not an easy task with a limited set of parts and game challenge.
