Community Learning

Field trips give students opportunities for hands-on, experiential learning. Dehesa offers several organized field trip opportunities each year. Enjoy culture by visiting museums such as the Museum of Tolerance and the Music Making Museum. Explore the arts by attending Classics for Kids, The Grinch, Broadway San Diego, or Encore! Chamber Theatre. Get one with nature by visiting the Wolf Encounter, the Wild Animal Park, The Monarch Butterfly Program, Behind the scences at the Zoo, Whale Watching, or Amy's Farm. What ever fieldtrip Dehesa students are attending, learning and fun go hand in hand. Lesson plans and other activities are suggested with most fieldtrips. Here are some fieldtrips Dehesa students have taken recently. Please visit the Activities/Fieldtrips page to find out what is coming up for Dehesa students.
"The Curriculum has got to include experiences that lift kids' heads way up and take them ou of their textbooks, their classrooms, their towns, even their countries, if possible."

Catalina

6-12 grade students can attend the annual Catalina trip. Students leave from Long Beach and take a ferry boat over to Catalina Island where they will participate in a two night, three day camping adventure. Students hike to the camp site and sleep in tents. They are kept busy exploring this wonderful island. Students embark upon an adventure that not only teaches marine science and island ecology, but stimulate curiosity for nature and become a treasured memory. The program consists of a series of half day activities which include snorkeling, island ecology hikes, oceanography, marine biology labs, and ocean kayaking. Students are accompanied by 4 Dehesa Charter School Educational Facilitators and the CIMI Cherry Cove professional staff.  Each CIMI instructor is an expert diver, active biologist, accredited first aider, camp counselor and qualified teacher.
