How it works
As an independent study program, Dehesa's purpose is to provide support for families
in which the parent has chosen to serve as the primary educator.
This is accomplished by matching each family with a credentialed and experienced
Educational Facilitator (EF). The parent, student, and EF collaborate to create
a personalized learning program which meets state standards and brings out the self-motivated
learner in each child.
The first step in setting up a program is a comprehensive learning styles assessment.
The EF then meets with the family at least once a month to collect work samples,
monitor progress, and provide assistance as needed.
Curriculum and instruction can include textbooks and hands-on
materials, online classes, taking
classes at the learning center or through
vendors, and even field trips.
Some students do most of their work at home while others take advantage of learning
opportunities in the community and through the school.
All the world is a classroom!
